Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship Recap

Thank you to all of those you who helped promote the Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship. This year we received the largest response to date with 485 applications. Of those 273 were from high school seniors and 212 were from post high school students.    

 

ICUF's panel of judges, made up of teachers and credit union professionals, will select six applications to award scholarships. Winners will be announced in April.  

 

   

Coming Soon - Financial Education Podcasts!

Soon ICUF will be offering a series of financial education related postcasts. These podcasts inlcude 12 new topics in a brief 1-2 minute format. They are being created by ICUF's Financial Education Consultant, Adam Carroll, and he will also provide a marketing cheat sheet to help credit unions promote this great resource to their members.  
 

AWJ Scholarships Awarded
 

AWJ Scholarships

ICUF is pleased to award the 2013 recipents of the AWJ Scholarship. The scholarship helps those who aspire to achieve leadership positions in the credit union system by attending Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Management School.

 

The scholarship was awarded to individuals at the following credit unions:

  • Ascentra Credit Union
  • Cedar Falls Community Credit Union
  • First Class Credit Union

Money Smart Week Essay Contest 
Do you have a Money Smart Kid? Students in grades 8-10 can now enter the seventh annual Money Smart Kid essay contest and compete for the chance to win $1,000 to help boost their college savings. The statewide essay contest is co-sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association and ICUF. The student with the winning essay will be selected as Iowa's Money Smart Kid for 2013 and receive $1,000 toward college savings. Download the application. Please promote this to your members and consider hosting an event for Money Smart Week. The dates are April 20-27.
 

Biz Kid$ Financial Education Grants
Credit union organizations can now apply for new Biz Kid$ Financial Education Grants from the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) through March 31, 2013.   

 

Biz Kid$ Financial Education Grants may be used to fund innovative programs that improve the financial education of youth. Projects may engage teachers, students, education leaders, local PBS stations, or community stakeholders through events, activities, and/or curriculum distribution. Read more.

It All Adds Up Toolkit
The Iowa Caregivers has posted a free online toolkit, It All Adds Up. The toolokit helps working families who may benefit from the Internal Revenue's Earned Income Tax Credit. There are also downloadable tools for employers to help inform their members and employees who may be eligible for the tax credit. View the toolkit online.
